I owe my ethical veganism to John Robbins. Back in 1991, while living in England, I became intrigued with the idea of radically changing my diet to benefit animals and the environment. Vegetarianism was popular in the UK then, and I heard the call. I chanced upon John’s book, Diet for a New America, and that was it. The book became my bible, and John became my mentor. I stopped eating meat overnight and upon returning to the U.S., went fully vegan in 1992. I have never looked back. Choosing the ethical vegan path was the best and most important thing I have ever done. Being vegan is essential to my life, like breathing. Thank you for everything, John, Deo and Ocean. You showed me the way through your amazing books, videos, EarthSave and the Food Revolution Network. Rest in power, dear John. Love and hugs to all the family.

My life is richer because I got to know John Robbins personally. I invited him to speak at the National Cohousing Conference in the Bay Area, and I got to spend precious time with him. Later, he invited me on a group camping trip on a river in Northern California, which I attended and enjoyed tremendously. Thank you, Ocean, for continuing his legacy. — Marty Maskall, Sacramento
