Hello Caitriona! Yes, uncooked tofu is generally safe to eat straight from the package, as it’s already been cooked during the production process. Most store-bought tofu—whether firm, soft, or silken—has been pasteurized or heat-treated before packaging. That said, it’s important to:

Keep it refrigerated and check the expiration date
Drain and rinse it well before eating
Store leftovers in water in an airtight container (changing the water daily)

Some people prefer to cook tofu to improve taste and texture or reduce any lingering beany flavor, but from a safety standpoint, it’s fine to eat uncooked. –Ina, Food Revolution Network Team

(I know many people (including me sometimes) eat it raw – just making sure I’m not overlooking something!) Thank you for this amazing resource 😁

It tastes best if left in the fridge overnight for the flavors to mix.

My favorite is-anything with soy sauce and sesame oil. Then I lightly pat some corn starch all over the cubes and fry them up. They come out with crispy edges. Good hot ir cold.
