We host WWOOFers. It has been a fun way to interact with new people. For those wanyliw-cost travel, it’s good to remember the host gives up privacy and time to help with your experience, and being ready to work is essential!

a WWOOF host in SE Australia for over a decade, late last century into this one, I count it as one of the most marvellous of my 8+decades, the stories!!!! some profound, some amusing, some relate to elements of your article Ocean. one good Qn to ask your potential host is about induction.how do you discover before an – when you arrive what is expected. I gave my new Wwoofers 2-3 days to orient – some had just done the 15-20 hour flights, to recover, orient, get the feel of our way of being – and enjoy our beach over the sanddunes – this is now not to get lost to return safely. all the sanddunes look the same form the beach. As each had received that hospitality from us and the already in-house Wwoofers, they were keen to hand it on – it really integrated community. I divided the work hours into three parts> we all work in food gardens – we eat what Wwooofers planted up to half a year ago, we care for our food for ourselves and next Wwoofers, we all clean and cook… that meant some fun commissariat for new cultures food cooking desires! and we were half hour to shops to supplement! I took our budding chefs with me to town to choose what ingredients they needed! the best… what would you like to contribute? the art and artistry, music, you already know how to build strawbale, (I was incredulous!) teach us as well as assist.. on and on… we also did exchanges with other hosts. eg mosaicing at ours, in exchange for bringing a van load of woofers – and my tents to theirs to plant indigenous trees and the food forest. The conversations under starlit full moon. I still say and mean it, Wwoof is the best hope for world peace.
